Dorkbot 1.02!

Our second installment of Dorkbot (after a long summer hiatus) focused
primarily on video and open source. Documentation of Carrie Gates presentation
on video djing can be found at www.archive.org

Ian Campbell talked about the linux live cd dynebolic which will take over your computer, non-permanently install a raft of interesting open source graphics and sound manipulating utilities and let you experience linux very effortlessly. You can download it from their main site www.dynebolic.org.

Also of note is the site distrowatch where you can find ratings and reviews of other linux distributions. A good place to start your exploration of open source operating systems.

Comments:
Hey there!

I had lots of fun presenting my talk on VJing the other week - thanks for having me!
I would like to say, though, that I wouldn't really call VJing "video deejaying", as the semantics of the medium are quite different...they are related, (perhaps symbiotically in club culture) but I think that VJing is only like DJing on a surface level (live mixing of various source material).
Anyways, here is a direct link to the page on archive.org where you can find a bit of footage from the talk (thanks to Ian Campbell for grabbing a few frames during the talk - much appreciated!): http://www.archive.org/details/The_Techne_of_The_VJ-Carrie_Gates-dorkbot_Sept_9_2006

ciao for now,
carrie
