AKA Gallery is an artist-run centre that facilitates the production, presentation and interpretation of a diversity of contemporary art with an emphasis on innovative artistic practices. Adapting a responsive approach to programming and related activities, AKA aims to be a catalyst for the development and sustainability of a lively and engaged community of artists and audiences. In connecting artists to the community and welcoming them to become involved, we strive to enrich artistic practices and critical discourses on a local, regional and national level.

PAVED Arts is a non-profit, artist-run centre for research, production, presentation and dissemination of contemporary photographic, audio, video, electronic and digital art. Our mandate is to present contemporary art with an emphasis in photographic, media art and new media practices, new media artwork. Through our production and presentation activities, PAVED Arts supports local, regional and national artists working in the ʻpavedʼ arts, as well as regional audiences and local communities.

AKA and PAVED co-own the 424 20 Street West building, in Saskatoon, SK which houses both their galleries as well as PAVED’s audio/video production studio and a shared 150-person capacity event space and billboard. The building serves a wide multidisciplinary community acting as a production studio, meeting room, concert venue, lecture hall, etc.

Currently an employment opportunity exists for the position of consultant to facilitate a new capacity building initiative whose goal is to research and implement a plan to make our facilities generators of revenue. Through brainstorming sessions, research and meetings we aim to assess our resources and develop a sustainable plan for development of our facilities. This position requires familiarity with artist-run centres and our respective mandates while possessing the business know-how to guide future entrepreneurial projects. The candidate will also have knowledge of both public and private funding opportunities. Knowledge of the local community and the historic Riversdale district where we are located will be an asset. Consultant fees will be paid as well as travel, per diem and accommodation for out of town applicants.

Major Responsibilities Include:

Develop a situational analysis of the organization’s as they stand in consultation with out capacity building committee comprised of board and staff

Facilitate and direct research and brainstorming sessions for how to develop our infrastructure with benefit to both organization

Help identify avenues of action relevant to the galleries

Facilitate and direct a plan to implement identified strategies

Conduct an outside evaluation approximately a year after the initial meetings to assess progress.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of working with arts organizations, developing sustainable business plans and a thorough understanding of the culture sector.
