Opening Reception: Friday, March 14 at 8PM.
Kitsch In Toons is a short satirical documentary video about an art collection. The art to be discussed is from a collection of vintage “wall accessories” picked up at garage sales and thrift stores by a single minded collector in the 1990’s. This art (on display in the second floor Toon’s Kitchen), represents a focused selection of cute kitsch featuring costumed young people as harlequins, dancers, musicians or poor people. The significance of the work will be promoted and explained in a short video that includes two mischievous art critics, trading on the authority that art works take on in the context of a gallery. Marcus Miller, Director, Gordon Snelgrove Gallery, has agreed to write about this exhibition.
