AKA/PAVED Arts Event Space
PAVED Arts and Sounds Like: An Audio Festival present:
Workshop participants make field recordings in the local environment, searching for silent spaces, noisy spaces, and dynamic spaces. The recordings become material for composition exercises where participants play and record on simple and makeshift musical instruments. No previous musical experience is required. Working together, we will create music in different group combinations, through games and composition exercises where recorded sound, written music, symbols, and other musical directions become scores for collaborative sound making. Through the workshop we will explore different kinds of music notation, written, non-written, graphic, and sound-based scores and their interpretation in performance.
Jeff Morton is a composer, musician, and media artist. Jeff studied music composition and theory at the University of Saskatchewan (B.Mus 2003) and at the University of Victoria (M.Mus 2008). Jeff’s artistic projects are often playful, experimental explorations of sound or image, communication, written forms of music, and other compositional processes using found objects or materials. In performance, composition, and installation, his work has been presented by ensembles and in galleries and festivals across Canada and internationally.
