In this talk on "Super-8 Histories" Gerald Saul will discuss the super-8 film form and it changing uses over time; from it's global beginnings in middle-class home movies to its decline and re-invention as a artist medium (particularly within Canada), to Saul's own re-discovery of it within his personal filmmaking practice, and the rise of interest in super-8 within Saskatchewan. Gerald Saul is a professor in the Department of Film at the University or Regina whose career began with backyard 8mm filmmaking 45 years ago. Link in bio to register!

Audrey Lane Cockett is a poet, spoken word artist, hip hop artist, soundscape artist, arts organizer, and outdoor educator based in Treaty 7 land, Calgary AB. Their work is rooted in wild, both outside and in. She is a passionate advocate for mental health and disability awareness, gender justice, love, and intersectional care for the natural world. Audrey Lane’s work embodies wild feminist rhetoric, tender feels in a body that overheard it was broken, deep time, and river rhythm. Audrey Lane loves creating and performing art in ways that stretch at the edges of consciousness and form. She is invested in exploring art and its intersections with music, science, justice, sustainability, performance, and other disciplines. A captivating actor and singer-songwriter, Lancelot Knight is a passionate performer who brings audiences into his character’s life experience and listeners on a journey of the heart. Spanning genres and all forms of artistry, Knight has a presence that is unmatched. Knight gracefully captures the attention of international festivals; as easily as he ignites the stage at local events should you be lucky enough to catch him. He has toured across Europe, New Zealand and North America. As a solo artist, Knight fills any space with an unforgettable show. Collaboratively, he takes lead vocals and guitar in the band Knight Switch, plays guitar for Chester Knight and The Wind and was nominated for a Juno through his guitar work created on Joey Stylez album "The Blackstar". Most recently, Knight co-created and starred in the play Reasonable Doubt. Making sense of the human experience through deep lyricism; Knight’s authenticity rings through with unique style, honesty and storytelling. His haunting and powerful voice carries an air of gentle melancholy, which captivates and leaves listeners spellbound. Program 1 premieres today and, if you're not familiar with Thirza's earlier work, we highly recommend that you treat yourself to a viewing of it because it's sharp and funny and very gay. Plus, be sure to read the lovely exhibition essay that we were so grateful to commission from the wonderful Erica Violet Lee. The entire exhibition, which includes three shorts programs, a live-streamed performance by Thirza, as well as an artist talk facilitated by Jas M. Stay tuned! ---- A loose retrospective of Regina-born artist, writer, and performer Thirza Cuthand’s moving image works, The Rhythm Of This Desire is an online exhibition that sits with the diverse intimacies of the artist’s vast filmography. Spanning two and a half decades, Cuthand’s experimental narratives consider the lived realities and intersections of Indigeneity, queer and Two-Spirit identity, sexuality, and madness with a mindful awareness often borne of the personal. The autobiographical, the fictive, and the performative coalesce in varying intensities throughout their work in a way that gives over space to the necessity of internal subjectivities as well as the urgencies of the oftentimes not-so-external world. . .
