Become a part of the “Future Collective” with DJ Olive
October 17-22, 2022
In partnership with Sounds Like Audio Festival, this week-long collaborative project led by turntablist/artist/improvisor DJ Olive invites participants to create an immersive multi-media installation inside of the PAVED Arts gallery space.
BRINGING THE “FUTURE COLLECTIVE” TO SASKATOON
Drawing on his extensive experience with multimedia collectives in Brooklyn at the dawn of the 1990s, DJ Olive spent one week as artist-in-residence at the Cleveland Institute of Art in the spring of 2008. Together with a group of students, they brainstormed, gathered materials, and constructed a group art installation that took over a series of unused rooms on the ground floor of the Cleveland Institute of Art factory building. The Project was termed the “Future Collective.”
As part of his contribution to this year’s Sounds Like Festival, DJ Olive will revisit the Future Collective format by spending a week working with a team of local artists to build out the gallery space at PAVED Arts into a sensorial funhouse. Students, graduates, PAVED Arts members, and artists of all stripes are encouraged to be involved in this unique opportunity, to create a collective multimedia presentation with DJ Olive at the helm.
The Saskatoon “Future Collective” will create an immersive sound and visual environment, lending participants an invaluable learning experience as well as the great potential for a continuing artistic exchange of ideas. This exciting collaborative project will take place at PAVED Arts, 424 20th Street West, beginning Monday, October 17th and continuing every day through to Friday October 21st. The following day, October 22nd, the completed multi-media sound installation created by participants will be open to Sounds Like Festival goers and the general public beginning at 5pm.
Participants in the Future Collective will receive:
• Full access to all Sounds Like Festival events
• A complimentary membership to PAVED Arts
