Darkside of the Room: Darkroom & Donut Club 2024

Last Sunday of every month starting January 2024
PAVED Arts Production Centre, 424 20th St. W. Saskatoon

PAVED Arts is excited to bring back “Darkside of the Room“, a return of our Darkroom & Donut Club. On the last Sunday of every month during the winter, we invite all PAVED members who are interested in 35mm analog photography to join us for our Darkside of the Room Sunday meetups! Did we mention there will be donuts from Darkside Donuts?!

In 2024, our annual Darkroom Club will be going green. We will be joined by our artist mentor, Barbara Reimer. Barb has a 16 year history of developing film and photo prints using coffee and non-toxic eco developers. Each month, we will alternate between developing black and white film and photo prints using eco processes.

These meetups provide an opportunity for skill sharing and hands-on processing, development, and scanning for everyone, regardless of experience level, in a casual, no pressure setting with guidance and mentorship.

The Darkroom Club dates are as follows:
January 28 – 6pm
February 25 – 6pm
March 24 – 6pm
April 28 – 6pm

Free for members! Purchase/renew your membership here.

Sign up for individual meetups by emailing program[at]pavedarts[dot]ca.

Artist Bio

Barbara Reimer works predominantly with photography, digital media, and installation to investigate waste, process, and materiality; most recently adding sculpture and, to a lesser extent, mark-making to her art practice. Educated in Saskatoon and Toronto during the 1990s, she has an extensive background in commercial photographic and digital specialist areas, and has spent large parts of the most recent 16 years independently researching and developing expired film in coffee and other “non-toxic” solutions. Past and present work is influenced by “the responsible photograph” (a term coined during the Finding a Green Photo project), documentary sculpture, the institution, travel, waste, and the “availability” of photo processes. Barbara has exhibited nationally and internationally, taking part in solo and group shows in Nicaragua, Toronto, Saskatoon, Michigan, Iceland, and Wuhan, China.
