PAVED Arts is excited to bring back the Darkside of the Room: Darkroom & Donut Club. On the last Sunday of every month during the winter, we invite all PAVED members who are interested in 35mm analog photography to learn about eco-friendly developing and printing in a casual, no pressure setting with guidance and mentorship. We’ll also enjoy donuts from Darkside Donuts!

We will be joined by artist mentor Barbara Reimer, who has 17 years of experience developing film and photo prints using coffee and non-toxic eco developers.

Who can join?
This club is free for PAVED Arts Members of any skill level. We ask that you purchase or renew your membership prior signing up. You can do so on our Purchase a Membership page, or at the production centre on the second-floor at 424 20th St W, Saskatoon.

How do I sign up?
A sign-up form for each month will be released at the start of the month in the PAVED Arts newsletter, on social media stories, and on this webpage. Start shooting your black and white film now so you have a roll ready to develop at the next meetup! Get low cost film at our film shop.

Artist Bio

Barbara Reimer works predominantly with photography, digital media, and installation to investigate waste, process, and materiality; most recently adding sculpture and, to a lesser extent, mark-making to her art practice. Educated in Saskatoon and Toronto during the 1990s, she has an extensive background in commercial photographic and digital specialist areas, and has spent large parts of the most recent 16 years independently researching and developing expired film in coffee and other “non-toxic” solutions. Past and present work is influenced by “the responsible photograph” (a term coined during the Finding a Green Photo project), documentary sculpture, the institution, travel, waste, and the “availability” of photo processes. Barbara has exhibited nationally and internationally, taking part in solo and group shows in Nicaragua, Toronto, Saskatoon, Michigan, Iceland, and Wuhan, China.
