Presented by Video Pool Media Arts Centre and curated by Kathy Rae Huffman, Isolated Landscapes is a major exhibition of the history of video art by women who live and work in the central Canadian region or who were informed by years of residing in (or growing up in) the region. The nineteen works in the exhibition (by twenty-one artists) were produced between 1984 – 2009 and play a prominent role in the history of Winnipeg’s legendary Video Pool Media Arts Centre. The project represents pioneering, early video art production by women artists working in various genres and reveals their ability to utilize the available technology of the time in response to the region’s perceived isolation and starkness, reflected in geographical, cultural and personal landscapes.

The short list of videos based on Kathy Rae Huffman’s curated program was prepared for PAVED Arts by Lenore Maier, with videos by Thirza Cuthand, Shawna Dempsey & Lorri Millan, Heidi Phillips, Dominique Rey, Colleen Simard, and Leslie Supnet.

All the works are held in the archives of Video Pool Media Arts Centre. Many of the artists had early support from Video Pool, thereby demonstrating the many regional partnerships and mutual support networks of artists and agencies in the region.

The project has four stages, an exhibition and series of performances, a public gathering to discussion of the history and future of women working in Media Arts, a free online screening on VUCAVU.com; all in November 2017. Now in its fourth stage screenings touring Canada, to Regina, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Halifax and Montreal.

A screening of selected Videos will be shown at PAVED Arts March 23rd at 7pm. With videos by Thirza Cuthand, Shawna Dempsey & Lorri Millan, Heidi Phillips, Dominique Rey, Colleen Simard, and Leslie Supnet.

About Kathy Rae Huffman
Kathy Rae Huffman has held significant curatorial posts at the Long Beach Museum of Art, the ICA Boston and the former Cornerhouse, Manchester (UK). She was Professor of Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY (1998-2000). She has consulted, presented special programs, curated, juried, administered and coordinated events for numerous international media art festivals and arts organizations. Her research topics have focused on feminist strategies in online environments, artists’ television and video art. In 1997, Huffman co-founded FACES: Gender/Technology/Art, an online community for women (www.faces-l.net). In 2017, she co-curated the Faces 20th anniversary exhibition at Schaumbad Freies Atelierhaus, Graz (Austria). Huffman was awarded an MFA (summa cum laude) in Exhibition Design from the School of Fine Arts, California State University (Long Beach), where she also completed post-graduate studies in Museum Studies. From 1990 –2013, Huffman lived “abroad” and worked in Linz & Vienna (Austria), Hull & Manchester (UK) and in Berlin (Germany). She traveled extensively in Central and Eastern Europe between 1984 and 2014. She currently resides in Southern California, where she continues her work as a freelance curator, networker, writer and media art collector.

Liz Knox will present a three-channel installation of video works, drawing upon three seasons of the original Law & Order television show: Season 1 (1991), Season 10 (2000), and Season 20 (2010). Knox uses conceptual strategies, examining systems of interpretation with an emphasis on irony. Language is the most common thread in her work, and a common starting point is found text.

The works in Law and Order expand on Knox’s previous investigations of popular culture and the nuances of communication within it. Law and Order intends to hold a mirror up to the popular television dramas that seem to hold up a mirror to the everyday news. 

The artist writes:
The small vignettes that start each Law & Order episode generally do not include the main actors, rather they are meant to simply set the stage and provide a tone. Each vignette captures a small-scale portrait of the year it was produced, and in weaving these snippets of mass media DNA together, they become an effective representation of the social and political climate of the decade.

The wording of the disclaimer ‘all persons fictitious’, which bookends each Law & Order episode, often shifts slightly, sometimes by only a word or two, perhaps to acknowledge similarity to real-life events while maintaining non-representation. (ie. ‘The following story is fictional and does not represent any actual person, entity or event’ versus ‘Although inspired by actual events the following story is fictional and not intended to represent any actual person or event’, etc.) The adamant insistence of non-representation alongside the videos creates an alternative portrait of three decades.

Artist bio:
Liz Knox studied Studio Art at the University of Guelph and completed her graduate studies at Emily Carr University in 2013. Her work has been shown in exhibitions and film festivals across Canada and internationally including the Charles H Scott Gallery (Vancouver),  Access Gallery (Vancouver), G Gallery (Toronto), Eyelevel Gallery (Halifax), Lawton Gallery (University of Wisconsin), Vtape (Toronto), and the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery (Toronto).

Void Gallery

This course will take participants through the process of screen-printing an up to two colour poster. They will be shown how to coat a silkscreen with photo-emulsion and how to expose and wash-out their screen to create their stencil. They will then have the opportunity to print paper posters using their image, in colours of their choosing. Those who have taken Part 1 will be able to use the stencil they created in that course; participants only taking this course should email Michael their image at least a week ahead. The course will end with participants each printing their posters.

* A $25 material fee will be charged per participant.

Michael Peterson is the co-founder and chair of Saskatoon’s Void Gallery, Project Manager for the provincial Professional Practices for Artists training program jointly developed by the Saskatchewan Craft Council and Void, and 2017 Curator for Nuit Blanche Saskatoon. This workshop is a general overview for new filmmakers and is intended for beginning directors and producers. It gives participants an overview of all the stages involved in low cost, independent filmmaking. Learn how to take your idea from the proposal stage to execution. Learn about the writing process, laying out your shooting schedule, prepping for your shoot, directing a small crew, how to plan for editing and some of the many options for finishing and exhibiting your film.

Aisha Jamal is a Toronto-based filmmaker, programmer and film professor. Her short documentaries have screened at festivals and venues worldwide. She is currently working on her first feature-length documentary called “A Kandahar Away” for the Documentary Channel. She is also Head of Programming at the Syria Film Festival and Canadian Film Programmer at Hot Docs Canadian Documentary Film Festival. Aisha teaches film theory and history at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. Along with Maya Bedward, she runs a monthly podcast on gender and race in film called “The Gaze.”

wnoondwaamin | we hear them calls for the occupation of sound waves, exploring the capacity of these energies to access knowledge and memory.

Each of the artists in this exhibition bring their voices to the transmission and reception of sound in performance, video and radio installations, revealing the nuanced meanings that sound carries.

Through performance, Jeneen Frei Njootli turns an ear to materials, such as caribou antlers, to sound the transmission of embedded and layered ancestral knowledge. Utilizing low wattage radio transmission, Autumn Chacon’s in-gallery installation transmits and receives audio broadcasts from borders, dividing lines and barriers, overcoming physical and perceived obstructions between otherwise regulated spaces.

From medicine baths to running rivers, Melissa General accesses sounds shared across time and through memory, constructing water compositions that encourage deep listening. Focusing on the subtle, often unnoticed, sounds of landscapes, Suzanne Morrissette blends microcosmic sound and images to reveal how human activity and land intertwine. Together these artworks create a chorus and conversation about the resonances that sound carries beyond the merely audible.

This course will take participants through the process of preparing a digital image so it can be used as a stencil for screen printing. Topics covered will include techniques for bitmapping images, separating images into CMYK layers for full-colour printing, spot colouring, and limits on how detailed an image can be depending its application (textile vs. paper-based printing).

Participants taking Part 2 will be able to use their image to create a silkscreen stencil, for a two-colour poster.

Digital Sound Manipulation and Design: Workshop w/ Adam Basanta

Sound manipulation and sound design workshop: learn basic “tape music” techniques of sound manipulation in a digital DAW, advanced processing (time stretch, granulation, etc), and creating complex sonic gestures. Useful for experimental music but also film sound, sound design etc. No previous experience necessary. Please bring your own computer, with your own DAW or freeware software (ie. Amadeus) installed.

Adam Basanta is a Montreal-based sound artist, composer, and performer of experimental music. His work traverses sound installations, electroacoustic and instrumental composition, site-specific interventions, and laptop performance. Across disciplines and media, he interrogates intersections between conceptual and sensorial dimensions of listening, instabilities of instrumentality, and means with which site and space can be articulated.

Live Acoustic Improvisation: Open Talk & Live Demo w/ Colin Fisher

Through an open talk and live demonstration, Fisher explores process; how improvisation functions as a biological coordinative function of the organism, a manifestation of personal expression. His presentation expands on listening as a component of dialogue, more specifically, a profound sense of listening inside oneself both literally and figuratively.

Colin Fisher is a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist/composer/improviser. Fisher believes that music has the capacity to create, to sustain life, and to bring the organism back into balance/homeostasis. Colin’s collaborative work links him across various communities and localities – he is most active in Not the Wind, Not the Flag, a psychedelic/ecstatic music duo with percussionist/musician Brandon Valdivia. Their decade long exploration of duo music has produced a substantial recording output, as well as a vast amount of live performance and tour experiences, including collaborations with Caribou and the Constantines.

Colin Fisher is a Toronto based multi-instrumentalist/composer/improviser active within various communities and aesthetics. His solo work explores what he feels the essential power/potential of music is that exceeds classification and finds itself in listening deeply to ones biological organism and its connection to greater creation. Civvie is an experimental trio improvising on amplified bassoon, cello, and weaving loom. Based in Winnipeg, Civvie creates arresting soundscapes using extended techniques and digital effects, stretching the sonic possibilities of their instruments. The percussive sounds of the weaving loom are layered, its incidental cadence suggesting the pulse of an increasingly industrialized world. The bassoon and cello respond to the woven rhythms in a haunting dialogue, both concerned and hopeful for the future that unfolds. Drawn to the variability of spontaneous compositions, their musical conversations evoke a natural world under the siege of human progress.

Are you interested in looping as a form of artistic expression? Join musicians Memelissa Gan and Laura Jane Beach in an interactive workshop that covers the basics of looping audio. From ‘fat beats’ to haunting soundscapes, four-chord pop hits to textural masterpieces, this workshop will showcase the versatility of looping sound as a means of creative exploration. No musical experience necessary! All gear (and light refreshments) will be provided.

Twin Voices is is an indie electro-folk project with roots in the Ottawa Valley and wings in Saskatoon, Toronto, and Montreal. Laura Beach crafts a dark and lovely sound with live looping of violin, voice, percussion and guitar. Their performance is equal parts stunning simplicity and playful complexity. Laura has played over 100 venues across Canada – from Prince Edward Island to Vancouver Island, Whitehorse to Moose Jaw. They have had the opportunity to share bills and stages with a number of notable artists, including Bruce Cockburn, the late Gord Downey, and the Deep Dark Woods.

Melissa Gan is a music teacher, artist, performer, and local settler to Treaty 6 Territory. They perform under the name respectfulchild, a solo project of ambient experimental violin. Their focus is on exploring the possibilities of creating soundscapes with minimal hardware, valuing textures and palettes over special effects and gear.

This Introduction to Photoshop workshop will focus on aspects of the software that Stephanie finds useful in her daily design work, as well as things she wished she would have learned earlier in her Photoshop explorations. Topics will include basics such as; using proper file types for specific print and web applications, preparing files for print, using the text tool, photo retouching, colour correction, utilization of layers and layer modes, layer masks, and how to make simple GIFS using the timeline feature.

Stephanie Kuse is a freelance graphic designer and multi-media visual artist. She is self-taught in Adobe Photoshop, and having used the program for approximately three-fifths of her life, holds it close to her heart as her favourite software. Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (b. 1975) is an artist and multi instrumentalist that works with voice in the realm of spontaneous music often under the moniker of Lichens. Most recently, creating patch pieces with modular synthesizer and singing to them has been a focus of live performance and recordings.

Quality of sound through the marriage of synthesis coupled with voice has allowed for a heightened physicality in the way of ecstatic music, both in a live setting and recorded. The sensitivity of analogue modular systems echoes the organic nature of vocal expression which in this case is meant to put forth a trancelike state. To usher in Deep Listening through sound and feeling. Losing one’s self in sound while being acutely self aware.

Influenced by environmental sounds, Martín Rodríguez draws a connection between the instinctive sonic communication occurring in nature and how human beings harness sound for their means of expression to create soundscapes which are living, listening, and engaging in the present.

About Rodríguez’s project Radio Therapy (2015): The fog of chemo and numbness of radiation. The brain surgery. Paralysis. The seizure that exposed it all. The sterile sounds of the hospital. One must find a way to heal. Radio Therapy expresses these sentiments by transforming the brutal sounds of Rodriguez’s MRI into a meditation on the healing process of his recovery from a cancerous brain tumor, creating both a soothing and battling ambiance of recovery & remission.

Radio Therapy is produced by harnessing radio frequencies alongside a transmission of Rodriguez’s MRI brain scan through a transducer that is attached to a standalone guitar. The transducer forces the whole body of the guitar to vibrate. The resulting sound is a blend of musical notes, and scanned AM radio frequencies resonating through the body of the guitar and passing through a chain of manipulated sound effects.

Build your very own passive, 4-channel mixer with 1/4” inputs and output. This mixer can be used on its own to combine signals to feed to an amp or PA, or to another mixer, if you need extra inputs. With some adapters, sources with 1/8” inputs (such as Korg Volca synths) can be used, as well. This mixer can even be used as an external mixer in a modular synth setup to mix audio or control voltages. Participants get to keep what they make!

Ora Clementi is the duo of Canadian sound artist crys cole and Australian composer-performer James Rushford. Formed in 2013, their collaboration is a unique investigation into liminal performance states, with a focus on text and speech as preconscious thought processes. Central to cole and Rushford’s duo are questions surrounding interpretation, the function of memory, semiotics, and the syntactical discipline of sound within both listener and performer. Utilizing various musical approaches in unorthodox and disorienting ways, their work incorporates field recordings, electronics, contact mics, various wind and keyboard instruments, percussion and voice. Using movement, conceptual performance practice and both amplified and acoustic sound, Ora Clementi play with subtleties of sensory perception, invoking a dreamlike context that hovers between musical performance and pure abstraction.

Adam Basanta (b. 1985) is a Montreal-based sound artist, composer, and performer of experimental music. His work traverses sound installations, electroacoustic and instrumental composition, site-specific interventions, and laptop performance. Across disciplines and media, he interrogates intersections between conceptual and sensorial dimensions of listening, instabilities of instrumentality, and means with which site and space can be articulated.

Using controlled feedback techniques refined over a series of sound installations between 2014-2016, this performance is a meditation on the instabilities of sound production; the quiet, fragile and delicate phenomena resulting from the intertwining of
sonic technologies. During the performance, sounds are always created through collaboration between the performerʼs actions, the tendencies of sound production equipment, and the modification of acoustic and spatial relationships between various technologies.
Microphones and speakers are hand-manipulated to create delicate, low volume, harmonic feedback melodies and chords; jars are placed on top of speakers as physical sonic filters; cassette tape recorders record their surroundings and play it back in
phased loops. The performance relies on small movements, small changes in the relationship between performer and technologies, and technologies to one another, creating a sense of mystery and wonder as to how the musical results are achieved.

wnoondwaamin | we hear them calls for the occupation of sound waves, exploring the capacity of these energies to access knowledge and memory.

Each of the artists in this exhibition bring their voices to the transmission and reception of sound in performance, video and radio installations, revealing the nuanced meanings that sound carries. Through performance, Jeneen Frei Njootli turns an ear to materials, such as caribou antlers, to sound the transmission of embedded and layered ancestral knowledge. Utilizing low wattage radio transmission, Autumn Chacon’s in-gallery installation transmits and receives audio broadcasts from borders, dividing lines and barriers, overcoming physical and perceived obstructions between otherwise regulated spaces. From medicine baths to running rivers, Melissa General accesses sounds shared across time and through memory, constructing water compositions that encourage deep listening. Focusing on the subtle, often unnoticed, sounds of landscapes, Suzanne Morrissette blends microcosmic sound and images to reveal how human activity and land intertwine. Together these artworks create a chorus and conversation about the resonances that sound carries beyond the merely audible.

Biographies

Autumn Chacon is a Dine/Chicana multimedia and performance artist from the Southwestern United States. Using new media, Chacon considers herself a traditional storyteller—not because she tells traditional stories but because she strives to find traditional philosophy in all contemporary stories and experiences. Often using electronic sound and unconventional use of radio frequencies Chacon creates environments where an interactive audience is free to control how much of her art they would like to receive. Chacon is also a farmer/agriculturist who uses food as a living medium.

Jeneen Frei Njootli is a Vuntut Gwitchin artist and a core member of the ReMatriate Collective and sits on the board of directors for grunt gallery in Vancouver. Frei Njootli has been based in these unceded territories of the Musqueam, the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Stó:lo peoples for nearly a decade while pursuing a BFA Degree from Emily Carr University (2012) and an MFA Degree from the University of British Columbia (2017). Frei Njootli’s practice concerns itself with Indigeneity-in-politics, community engagement and productive disruptions. She has worked as a performance artist, workshop facilitator, crime prevention youth coordinator, and has exhibited recently at the Ottawa Art Gallery (Ottawa), Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography (Toronto), gallery 1313 (Toronto), ace art (Winnipeg) and the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery (Vancouver).

Melissa General is Mohawk from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. She is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design and completed an MFA degree at York University. Working in photography, installation and video, the focus of her practice has been on concepts involving memory, history, land and her Indigenous identity. Her work has been exhibited at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Harbourfront Centre, Art Gallery of Peterborough, Gallery 101, Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography and has been included in the 2016 Contemporary Native Art Biennial in Montréal.

Suzanne Morrissette is a Cree-Metis artist, curator and scholar from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She received her BFA in 2009 from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and later completed her MFA at OCAD University in 2011. She is currently a PhD candidate in the department of Social and Political Thought at York University. Morrissette has been invited to present her research at conferences organized by institutions such as the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in New York (2011), the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective and OCAD University (2011), and the University of Lyon in France (2013). As an artist Morrissette has been included in national and international exhibitions including Noodagun Beacons for NAISA (2015), Owning with the Gaze at Gallery 101 (2015), and North of Here at Harbourfront Centre (2014).

Curator Lisa Myers is an independent curator and artist with a keen interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. She grew up in southern Ontario and is of Anishinaabe ancestry from Shawanaga and Beausoleil First Nations. In 2011, she earned an MFA in Criticism and Curatorial Practice from OCAD University. Her current research focuses on both media art and concepts of value related to the life of materials and techniques passed on through generations. She has curated exhibitions at the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, The Robert Mclaughlin Gallery in Oshawa and the York Quay Centre at Harbourfront in Toronto. Her writing has been published in Senses and Society, C Magazine and FUSE Magazine. Myers works in Port Severn and Toronto, Ontario. Myers is an assistant lecturer in the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University. She is based in Toronto and Port Severn, Ontario.

Project Mentor Cheryl L’Hirondelle (Cree/Metis/German) is a community engaged multi– and inter–disciplinary artist, and singer/songwriter originally from the land now known as Canada. Her creative practice is an investigation of the junction of a Cree worldview (nêhiyawin) in contemporary time space. Since the early ’80s, L’Hirondelle has created, performed and presented work in a variety of artistic disciplines, including music, performance art, theatre, spoken word and storytelling, through redundant and new media. In the early ’90s, she began a parallel career as an arts consultant/advisor, programmer, cultural strategist/activist and director/producer. L’Hirondelle’s various activities have also found her working in the Canadian independent music industry, national artist-run centres, educational institutions, the Canadian prison system, First Nations bands, tribal councils and governmental funding agencies at the municipal, provincial and federal levels.

PAVED Arts (www.pavedarts.ca) is a not-for-profit, charitable artist-run centre in Saskatoon for research, production, presentation and dissemination of contemporary photographic, audio, video, electronic and digital art. The production centre at PAVED Arts is honoured to support our communities work through the “Members Production Fund”. Producing members in good standing can submit their project to receive up to $625 cash and $750 production centre credit.

1.Only PAVED Arts members in good standing can apply to the production fund.
2. Members who have already received a Members Production Fund Award are ineligible.
3. Projects will be assessed by a jury of 2 staff members and 1 artist from the community.

Proposal
Proposal MUST include:
– Current artistic CV.

Starting Thursday, September 14th, as part of the third annual Toon’s On Transit, fifty local photographers will have their work displayed on Saskatoon transit buses as well as the Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport for a 2 month roaming gallery exhibition.

PAVED Arts once again requested the work of Saskatoon area photographers to be placed on city transit. An open call for photographs by local residents resulted in submissions in excess of 200 entries. These submissions were narrowed to 50 images, selected by a community jury consisting of Carey Shaw, Karla Griffin and Kevin Lee Burton.

For eight weeks (September 14-November 13), 100 city buses will feature unique photographs by Saskatoon photographers. As riders enjoy their daily commute they will encounter a diverse array of photographs in the buses that will vary depending on their route and time of day.

As an expansion of the project, Pattison Outdoor Advertising has partnered with PAVED Arts to feature select photos from this years exhibition on the gateway terminal screens at the Saskatoon International Airport. This is an exciting development in this growing initiative that will provide a unique view of our city for visitors and residents alike.

Toon’s On Transit is a continuation of PAVED Arts programming that highlights the talents of local artists through our outreach and exhibition. Located in the former Toon’s Kitchen restaurant in Riversdale, a media gallery was constructed in PAVED Arts honouring the restaurant’s history. This gallery space has programmed local video work, as an opportunity to recognize our locale, as well as highlight emerging artistic talent in our community. As a growing annual tradition, we are taking Toon’s Kitchen ‘on delivery’ into every neighbourhood of Saskatoon.

A slideshow cross section of photographs submitted for this year will be exhibited in the PAVED Arts Toon’s Kitchen Media Gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday Noon-6pm, Saturdays Noon-4pm.

This workshop will explore how self-made rules can be a catalyst for creativity. Although we associate many of societies rules with obligations or chores, making your own rules can be really fun. Most iconic artworks are governed by some kind of rule or set of principals that inform how a work is constructed or displayed. There are also governing rules that underpin most artistic styles and there are artworks that consist exclusively of a set of instructions or rules that are meant to be followed by viewers to create the work.

In the workshop, we’ll look at the connection between different sets of rules and the artworks they have inspired. we’ll also play with making a set of rules for a project, that will inform a short video project.

BIO:

Jennifer Crighton is an artist, curator, musician, costume designer and cultural instigator. She has a special interest in community, especially as this relates to our sense of home, our domestic and cultural spaces, and the people we gather around ourselves for support and inspiration. She has played music and presented artwork across Canada and beyond.

Background
PAVED Arts programming has reached into the 2019 calendar year, a situation that suggests we draw down the number proposals accepted. In the interest of keeping some scheduling flexibility with projects that arise, and giving submissions from the open call full and fair consideration, we are strategically suspending our general call for September 15, 2017. This year off will allow us to catch up with the projects that are in place and start afresh with the open call for submissions in September, 2018.

This year PAVED Arts is issuing a thematic call for submissions that will form the basis of a single curated exhibition. This project is designed to provide full CARFAC fee support, travel, accommodations, per diem, in-kind support from our production centre, materials budget, etc. Most importantly, a longer time for undertaking production at the centre will be accorded to the successful applicant(s). The 2-3 week “mini-residency” period will be proceeded by a correspondence and exchange with the centre, and provide for time and space to prepare and respond to the gallery and the surrounding community.

Background Premise

In their seminal work A Thousand Plateaus, Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari develop the concept of a Line of Flight as a partial account for how organisms (any living organ-ization or body) manage to, under certain conditions, escape the limitations of identity and territory. They identify three tendencies in relation to this process. The first tendency involves holding to an established territory, which in turn tends to locate and fix content and expression. Conversely, departing from territory, the act of deterritorialization, tends to place content and expression into movement and variation. Both tendencies are regularly taken up as necessary aspects of an organic process. However, there also exists an experimental margin of activity that explores the outside in a manner that is not reconcilable. A Line of Flight constitutes this more radical departure, one that breaks with territory in a way that changes the very composition of a given assemblage, thus entering new territory and becoming truly different. The Line of Flight does not return to an ordinal sense of “identity,” rather the departure establishes new connections that can not be fully anticipated.

Project Proposals: Approach
Proposals responding to this call should include an articulation of artistic interests, political bearings, and past exhibitions and experiences, but only as points of departure. We are looking to engage projects that are experimental to the extent that methodology and social/political attitudes remain open to encounters with other artists and the broader community. In this sense proposals may introduce relevant problematics: dynamic and responsive questions that become manifest in the space through an encounter with the space and the community at large. The LINEs OF FLIGHT project will be curated on the basis of enabling artistic projects that work with the material of a situation, while bringing to bear the peculiar and idiosyncratic sensibilities of the artist and her/his project.

Submissions to the LINEs OF FLIGHT project may target the PAVED Arts Main gallery space, sound separated Media Gallery, the shared PAVED Arts/aka artist run billboard space, or any combination thereof.

Accepted media formats for support material:

Video: .mov quicktime file, H264 codec 
Video links: vimeo.com, youtube.com

Audio: .aiff, .wav, or .mp3

Audio links: soundcloud.com

Image: .jpeg format, maximum dimensions of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 72 dpi.
Files must be numbered in the format: 01_surname.jpg

Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Submission materials may be delivered by Dropbox or WeTransfer. The download link should be sent to artistic(at)pavedarts(dot)ca.
